Visualizing Every Tesla Supercharger In The World

A quick glance into the evolution of the Tesla Supercharger Network.

Tesla Revolutionized motor vehicles when the launched their lineup of electric cars in 2012.  Tesla ranked as the world’s best-selling plug-in passenger car manufacturer in 2018, both as a brand and by automotive group, with 245,240 units delivered and a market share of 12% of the plug-in segment sales.[8][9][10] Tesla vehicle sales in the U.S. increased by 280% from 48,000 in 2017 to 182,400 in 2018,[11] and globally were up by 138% from 2017.[12]

As of March 2019, Tesla has 1614 Superchargers with 13964 charging stalls spread across the world.

This Dashboard looks at how Tesla’s Supercharging network has expanded since its inception. The map visualization plots every supercharging location in the word as of March 9, 2019.

We can visualize the adoption of Tesla vehicles globally, with majority of the developing nations embracing the evolving electric vehicle technology.

A high level drill-down shows the number of superchargers, stalls and the status of the superchargers across the world.

The plots reveal interesting trends like the choice of locations for the supercharging station. We can see that the network in the U.S Mid-West has evolved around major highways and interstate exchanges like the I-80 and the I-90.

Another interesting geographical pattern is revealed on the U.S East and U.S West Coast. States like California, Texas, Florida, New Jersey and New York have the largest number of superchargers in the United States. These states are home to a lot of big companies and tech giants and serve as a growing market for electric vehicles.

The Yearly View Dashboard talks about the rise in superchargers over the years filtered on geographical regions, year and number of stalls.

It is exciting how visualizing data can tell a story in an instant. This project was just another step towards a career in data analytics.
